National Theater upgrades online ticketing system

The National Theater’s online ticketing system has been upgraded and is up and running again, allowing theatergoers to purchase tickets to shows through the theater’s website.

“We are pleased to resume online ticket sales,” National Theater Director Adriana Collado said in a press release. “We were pioneers in online ticket sales. We just needed to upgrade our system.”

Ronald Arroyo, head of the theater’s technology and systems department, said the old online system was obsolete and needed the update to ensure a modern and safe online ticketing system for customers.

Provided the producer has authorized online sales, tickets for all shows in the main theater can now be purchased online, starting with this weekend’s “Peter Pan,” a two-act ballet staged by the Costa Rican Youth Ballet. J.M. Barrie’s classic tale of adventure, fairies and pirates will go onstage Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 11 a.m.

To purchase tickets online, customers first need to register on the National Theater website, www.teatronacional.go.cr. Tickets can then be bought using a Visa or MasterCard. Customers will receive a receipt for their purchase via email, which they must sign and present at the box office to receive their tickets.

The system works in conjunction with Banco Nacional. Arroyo stressed that all transactions are secure and confidential, and only the bank will have access to the information provided by customers.

Tickets for “Peter Pan” cost ₡5,000-₡10,000 ($10-$20), with a 30 percent discount for children under 12. Tickets for all shows may also be purchased at the theater’s box office (2221-5341), open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
