Two-decade study proves big win for pot smokers

A large-scale study has concluded what marijuana aficionados have been saying for years: Weed in moderation doesn’t significantly damage the lungs.

The 20-year-long, 5,115-subject study was conducted by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and it appeared Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

By “in moderation,” researchers mean up to one joint a day for seven years or one joint a week for two decades. The findings on heavy marijuana smokers – those special people who smoke two joints a day for multiple years – were foggier. But the study did unearth conclusive evidence for the following revelation: Smoking tobacco does damage the lungs.
