Free Concerts Celebrate Fiesta de la Música

Get ready for a jam-packed weekend of musical partying.

The 2010 Fiesta de la Música kicks off today with national band concerts around the country, followed by the big day Saturday, June 19, when groups of all musical stripes will offer free concerts at venues around the capital and in Cartago, east of San José.

From classical flute and guitar ensembles and Costa Rican folkloric groups to “psychotropical” band Sonámbulo and rock group Akasha, a wide variety of bands will share their love of music with the public in an extension of France’s Fête de la Musique, celebrated annually on June 21.

Concerts will take place throughout the day tomorrow at Plaza de la Democracia, the CentralBankMuseums, the NationalMuseum, La Aduana, El Farolito, Boutique Kiosko SJO and Kalú restaurant, and Librería Francesa in San José, as well as at the Cartago Culture Culture. National bands will give concerts around the country through June 25 in conjunction with the festival.

For a complete concert schedule, see the Calendar on pages W6 and W7, or visit fiestadelamusica.blogspot.com.
