SOUNDING OFF: Presidential candidates Ottón Solís (right) of the Citizen Action Party, Otto Guevara of the Libertarian Movement Party and Humberto Arce of the Patriotic Union met Tuesday night for a debate at the University of Costa Rica (UCR). The three participants were chosen by random draw as part of a series of debates to be held over the next four months. During the debate, audience members (left) heard the candidates opine on issues including corruption, immigration, sex education, and the widening gap between the rich and the poor, among other topics. Solís elicited audible gasps from the audience when he said he would outlaw all forms of abortion if the Catholic Church promised to approve condom use (see separate story).
