Rice Table Raises Funds for Animal-Welfare Education

THE Humanitarian Associationfor Animal Protection (AHPPA) inSan Rafael de Heredia, north of SanJosé, held its annual fundraiser, knownas the “Rice Table,” on March 19.From ticket sales, donations and raffles,the event raised approximately$8,500, all of which will go to completingconstruction of the new schoolon the shelter premises.Construction of the school is nearlycomplete; classes will begin thismonth. The first of its kind in CostaRica, the school will bring in busloadsof children from around the CentralValley, three mornings per week, tolearn about the importance of caring foranimal welfare and the environment.For more info, call AHPPAat 267-7158or e-mail refugio@infoweb.co.cr.
