The Costa Rican Coast Guard and firefighters from Puntarenas rescued five U.S. boaters off the coast of Playa Hermosa, Garabito, after a fire broke out on board the sport fishing vessel Foxi Lady on Monday.
A fleet of 64 international teams from 24 countries paraded out of Marina Pez Vela and into the sailfish-rich Costa Rican waters yesterday for the start of the 15th annual Offshore World Championship sport fishing tournament. By the end of the first day, anglers had released an impressive 761 sailfish, three blue marlin and 27 dorado by the time the “lines in” call was made.
On Sunday, coast guard officers detained a fishing boat in Quepos, Puntarenas, on the Pacific coast, and found 21 shark fins on board weighing four kilograms, which likely came from four sharks, according to a statement from the Public Security Ministry.
