Costa Rican authorities are searching for a woman who disappeared Tuesday while hiking to Cerro Ventisqueros, the country's second-highest peak and part of Chirripó National Park.
Environmental groups believe a cableway to Chirripó peak would attract crowds that would overload the national park’s capacity and endanger the protected lands.
Paul Thomas Walter, 62, died of a heart attack on March 13 while hiking near Arenal Volcano. He was one of two U.S. hikers to die on trails in Costa Rica that day.
