After dropping the route last year, Colombian airline Avianca apparently has changed its mind and will soon resume flights between San José, Costa Rica, and New York, Costa Rica Civil Aviation Authority (DGAV) Director Álvaro Vargas announced this week.
Colombia-based airline Avianca will cancel its nonstop San José-Miami flights starting Jan. 16, according to Director of Corporate Affairs Claudia Arenas.
The measure was taken as part of “an optimization of the global routing network,” Arenas stated Friday in a press release.
A company proposal includes a fleet of 3-5 Airbus types of aircraft to fill a gaping market gap left by Avianca-TACA, which recently cancelled five direct flights, including to the U.S.
