The Organization of American States is scheduled to hear Costa Rica's case relating to the San Juan dispute Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. EST, after conversations between Costa Rica and Nicaragua stalled.
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega claims Costa Rica has expansionist plans and wants to steal the San Juan River, just as it took Guanacaste and Nicoya from Nicaragua 185 years ago.
Nicaragua's Edén Pastora says Isla Calero, claimed by Costa Rica, is actually part of Nicaragua. Said Pastora: “I have the responsibility to the people of Nicaragua, to the government, and to the party to clean the river and rescue it.”
The purported gang members stopped the bus and drenched everyone inside with gasoline, including an 18-month-old baby; “they set fire to them and shot those who tried to escape.”
