Taxi fares to increase

The first kilometer of a taxi ride will soon cost ₡585 ($1.16), ₡15 more than the current rate of ₡570 ($1.13). The Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP) also approved an increase of ₡10 for additional kilometers.

According to ARESEP, the changes are a result of inflation, changes in salaries and fuel prices from March. In February, taxi fares were decreased by ₡5.

Fares for special taxi services, like those at Juan Santamaría International Airport, will also increase from ₡835 ($1.66) to ₡850 ($1.69).

New fares will go into effect the day after they are published in the the official government newspaper La Gaceta.
