Weekly restrictions that prevent vehicles from entering the center of San José – based on license plate numbers – will not apply Wednesday, July 25, when most of the country celebrates the annual holiday marking the Nicoya Annexation, the Public Works and Transport Ministry (MOPT) announced.
Vehicle restrictions in the capital also will be suspended on Aug. 2, when some 2 million catholics will make an annual pilgrimage to the church of the Virgen de los Angeles in the province of Cartago, 22 kilometers east of San José.
Cars with plates ending in 5 or 6 – normally restricted on these days – may drive in the capital. However, restrictions will apply for vehicles weighing six tons or more, MOPT said.
The fine for violating the restriction is â‚¡46,852 ($93).
