Sir Richard Branson visiting Costa Rica to join fight against shark finning

Sir Richard Branson, the billionaire founder of Virgin Worldwide and noted environmentalist, will be in Costa Rica on Wednesday as Costa Rica pledges to keep up its fight against shark finning.

The Costa Rican government will sign a decree vowing to “ban shark finning and the import, transport and possession of shark fins in Costa Rican waters,” at 10 a.m. in Manuel Antonio National Park, on the central Pacific coast.

Costa Rica has imposed some limitations designed to prevent shark finning, but the practice remains common, and the dish is available in many Chinese restaurants in San José.
