Officers of the Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) on Wednesday raided 10 municipalities and the offices of three construction companies as part of an investigation into irregularities in the management of asphalt donations made by the National Oil Refinery (RECOPE) to the municipalities.
Municipal offices were raided in cantons of the provinces of Cartago (Central and Jiménez), Guanacaste (Liberia), Puntarenas (Buenos Aires, Golfito, Paquera, Cóbano) and Heredia (Santa Bárbara, San Pablo and Barva). Agents were looking for evidence of errors in donation reports made by RECOPE.
OIJ agents also raided three companies: CONANSA, Otto Corrales and Orosi Siglo XXI, where they seized documents and other potential evidence. There were no reports of arrests.
The Prosecutor’s Office said details of the investigation would be announced later at a press conference.
