Dry season coming soon to Costa Rica

The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) reported Thursday that the weather conditions of rainy season will begin to fade gradually this month.

The transition is expected to bring sunny and warm afternoons, typical of the dry season, which is expected to start next week.

IMN forecasts note that the beginning of the dry season will be different in each region of ​​the country. In the North Pacific, dry season is expected to start between Nov. 7-11, while in the Central Valley it is expected between Nov. 17-21, in the Valle de El General (Southern Zone valley) and the Central Pacific between Dec. 12-16, and in the South Pacific, a dry climate will arrive Dec. 22-26.

The IMN also said the influence of the climatic phenomenon known as “El Niño” this year resulted in a lack of rainfall throughout the country.

IMN recorded a 24 percent decrease in rainfall this season in the North Pacific, a 17 percent decrease in the central Pacific, 16 percent in the South Pacific, 19 percent in the Central Valley, 22 percent in the Northern Region, 19 percent in the North Caribbean and  15 percent in the Southern Caribbean.

An increase in wind strength is also expected by the end of the year.
