Roadway Safety Council to build eight pedestrian bridges in 2013

The Roadway Safety Council (COSEVI) will invest ₡3 billion ($6 million) to build eight pedestrian bridges in areas of the country that register the highest rates of pedestrian accidents.

Last Friday, a public bid was published in the official newspaper La Gaceta for the design and construction of one bridge on Route 27 (San José – Caldera Highway) and another in the province of Heredia, in front of Paseo de las Flores Mall.

The locations of the other six bridges also have been chosen. The first will be installed at the beginning of Route 32 in front of La República newspaper (northwest of San José). Two others will help protect students in the province of Limón, at La Marina High School and Pococí Technical High School.

On the Florencio del Castillo Highway, which connects the capital with the province of Cartago, a new bridge will be built at the beginning of the route in the eastern canton of Curridabat, and another will be located in La Lima, west of Cartago. The last one will be located next to Monte General shopping center in Pérez Zeledón, south of San José.

COSEVI authorities will use funds from the 2012 budget and expect to finish the projects by the end of 2013.
