Iberia airlines strike will not affect flights from Costa Rica

Although a protest on Monday led to the cancellations of 1,220 Iberia flights in the biggest strike in the company’s history, none of the flights operated between San José and Madrid will be affected, the company said in a press release.

“Passengers traveling from San José to destinations in Spain, Europe, Africa or the Middle East have already been relocated on other flights,” the statement said.

The airline also released a list of flights canceled between Feb. 18-22.

Customers who purchased tickets at the company’s website (www.iberia.com) received messages indicating if connecting flights were affected.

For more information, Iberia customers in Costa Rica can call at 4000-0225.

The strike was called by unions of office and cabin crew workers in opposition to a plan announced Nov. 9 that includes 3,807 layoffs – 19 percent of the airline’s workforce.
