Water rates to remain unchanged through June

Good news for water customers this year: the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP) on Monday announced there will be no rate hikes for water service for the next six months.

“AyA has enough funds to operate normally, to meet its operating expenses and execute its investment plan,” ARESEP reported in a press release.

According to the regulatory authority, the Costa Rican Water and Sewer Institute, known as AyA, forecast an eight percent increase in its profits over that period, “which is enough to maintain current rates.”

Last August, ARESEP postponed a 16 percent rate increase requested by AyA, determining that the agency had a positive balance of more than ₡23 billion ($46 million).
