A Christmas classic is taking the stage at the new Oceans Center in Jacó. Teatro Jacó’s production of “A Christmas Carol” opened Dec. 20 and will run through Dec. 30 in the Central Pacific beach town’s new 150-seat theater.
A New York City cast performs alongside local Costa Rican talent making their professional stage debuts in this musical adaptation of the classic Dickens tale celebrating holiday spirit. While lines are spoken in English, the original musical score includes Christmas carols sung in Spanish.
Remaining performances are tonight and Dec. 27-30 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee performance Dec. 26 at 3 p.m. General admission costs $35, with discounts offered for Costa Rican nationals, children and groups of 10 or more. Founded by Darren Lee Cole of New York City’s SoHo Playhouse, Teatro Jacó burst onto Costa Rica’s theater scene in January with the one-woman show “Jamaica Farewell” by Debra Ehrhardt (TT, Jan. 14). The group aims to “bring the world of entertainment to Jacó” while inspiring local talent through funding arts programming and educational workshops, according to Teatro Jacó’s website.
