Culture Ministry invites citizens to ‘fall in love’ again

Performing and visual arts shows and classes, urban sports, handicraft exhibits and other cultural and educational activities will once again take over San José’s public spaces with the Feb. 4 return of the Culture Ministry’s popular Enamorate de tu Ciudad (Fall in Love With Your City) program, Culture Ministry officials announced last week at an open-air function in downtown San José’s Parque España.

Launched with great success last year, the program aims to offer citizens free entertainment, cultural enrichment and educational opportunities in the city’s public spaces. This year will see the addition of new venues including Parque La Merced and the Avenida Central boulevard, in addition to Parque España, Parque Morazán and Jardín de Paz.

More than 200,000 people “fell in love” with their city last year, according to a statement from the Culture Ministry, which has allocated $600,000 for this year’s program. Banco Popular will pitch in $200,000.

The program will run Saturdays, starting at 10 a.m., Feb. 4 through Dec. 1, with the exception of March 3 due to the Transitarte Festival and April 7 due to Easter week. For information, find “Enamorate de tu ciudad” on Facebook.
