Health and prosperity make a great business model

One way to stay healthy and live longer is to have a good diet with wholesome foods. Things really get interesting is when people who feed us start adapting their business models to the Chinese principals of yin and yang. That’s the idea behind macrobiotic food, and if businesswoman Noelia De León is any measure, it has proven a successful model.

De León’s macrobiotic food company, Konig Sabroso, recently won a History of Excellence award at Costa Rica Innova 2010, an annual business expo to highlight innovation. Konig Sabroso, a medium-sized food business, operates Pan Konig, which for the past 25 years has been selling a variety of breads made from natural ingredients that are free from sodium, sugar and chemical additives. De León started the bread shop in 1985 with a small loan and only three recipes. As she grew her business through the years, she focused on educating consumers about the importance of eating healthy food.

Today that investment in her customers’ health has paid off, and De Leon is receiving some well-deserved recognition. In addition to the excellence award, the Chamber of Exporters recently named De León, who also serves as president of the Costa Rican Businesswomen’s Forum, Businesswoman of the Year. For more on her company, look for a forthcoming web page at www.facebook.com/KonigSalud.

Congratulations Noelia!
