Fuel prices in Costa Rica to decrease on Thursday

Fuel prices are set to drop at midnight tonight after a decree by the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP) was published in the official newspaper La Gaceta on Wednesday.

The decree, signed last week, sets decreases at ₡44 for “super” gasoline, ₡39 for “plus” and ₡28 for diesel.

Starting Thursday, a liter of super gas will drop from ₡679 to ₡635 ($1.25-1.17). Plus will decrease from ₡642 to ₡603 ($1.19-1.11), and diesel from ₡479 to ₡451 ($0.88-0.83).

This is the seventh change in fuel prices approved this year and represents an average decrease of 6.13 percent in per-liter prices.

ARESEP’s decision was based mostly on decreases in international fuel prices from July 30-Aug. 13.

A production increase in finished products in the U.S., resulting in over-supplies, and the stability of local demand in that country also influenced the regulatory authority’s final calculation.
