Strong magnitude-6.8 earthquake rocks Costa Rica’s southwest

A magnitude-6.8 earthquake was the latest in a series of temblors rocking Central America. According to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica, the quake struck at 2:51 a.m. Monday off the coast of Costa Rica’s Burica Peninsula, along the western border with Panama.

The earthquake follows a magnitude-6.2 quake Saturday at 11:21 a.m. in the same area. Northern Panama also felt a strong magnitude-6.4 quake Saturday afternoon, according to various news reports.

No significant damage or injuries have been reported in Costa Rica as of this posting.
