Archie and the Predator come to Costa Rica in insanely dark comic mash-up

Beyoncé isn’t the only celebrity that likes to vacation in Costa Rica. Arriving in Spring of 2015, Archie Andrews and the gang from Archie Comics will tour the country for their spring break in a four-issue miniseries.

But if you thought Archie was all about love triangles and spilled milkshakes, think again. For this series mash-up, Archie Comics is joining forces with Dark Horse Comics to pit the wholesome Riverdale gang against the iconic alien hunter, the Predator.

According to USA Today, Betty is the one who encounters the Predator in the Costa Rican jungle after she runs into the trees after a fight with Veronica.

Known best as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s intelligent and lethal enemy in the 1987 film “The Predator,” it may seem like an unlikely enemy of Archie and his pals, but series writer Alex De Campi believes the oddity is part of its appeal.

Here’s what De Campi told USA Today on why she wanted to write the series:

Because it’s just completely insane. Let’s take this gentle, beloved, classic teen cast and hunt them down and slaughter them one by one.

This isn’t the first time the classic comics have turned away from innocent teenage high jinks in favor of a darker plot. Writers pitted the gang against a horde of zombies in “Afterlife with Archie,” and the Archie Andrews character died in one short-run series, “Life with Archie,” after he was shot trying to protect his gay-senator friend from assassination.
