RECOPE asks for fourth consecutive decrease in fuel prices

The National Oil Refinery (RECOPE) on Wednesday reported that it would file a request for a drop in fuel prices, likely on Friday.

RECOPE will ask the Public Services Regulatory Agency (ARESEP) for a ₡16 decrease in the per-liter price of “Super” gasoline, a ₡17 decrease for “Plus,” and a ₡21 decrease for diesel.

“A new decrease in the price of gasoline and diesel on the international market will allow us to drop prices for the consumer,” RECOPE said in a press release. Changes in the dollar exchange rate did not apply in ARESEP’s recent calculations. The dollar increased from ₡541.77 in September to ₡542.03 in the first week of October.

RECOPE’s request could lower per-liter prices of Super gasoline from ₡777 to ₡760.80 ($1.46-1.42), Plus gasoline from ₡744 to ₡726 ($1.39-1.36) and diesel from ₡658 to ₡636 ($1.23-1.19).

If approved, this would be the fourth consecutive drop in fuel prices this year. New prices would begin next month, following publication in the official newspaper La Gaceta.
