Toll prices on Route 27 to decrease starting Wednesday

Tolls between Costa Rica’s capital and the Pacific province of Puntarenas via highway Route 27 will cost motorists â‚¡10-70 less at each booth beginning Wednesday.

Highway administrator Globalvia announced the new toll prices, which are evaluated every three months based on the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar. The last price change on July 1 meant a ₡10-80 increase for motorists.

With the new prices, traveling the full 77-kilometers between the two provinces in a car will decrease from ₡2,030 to ₡1,990 ($3.81-$3.73).

Semi-trailers with five or more axles will see the biggest drop as the costs will decrease from â‚¡12,830- â‚¡12,500 ($24.07-23.45) for the full trip.

Route 27, opened in 2010, is one of the main highways connecting the Central Valley with the Pacific coastal region. On average some 16,000 motorists use it every day, according Globalvia.
