Master’s Track championship kicks off in San José

Representing Costa Rica, Francisco Ortíz, 47, hurls a discus during a pentathlon at the North, Central American and Caribbean World Masters Athletics Championship, which started Thursday at the National Stadium in La Sabana. The NCCWMA Championship is the largest track and field event held in Costa Rica, hosting 615 athletes from throughout the region. All competitors must be at least 30 years old to compete in Master’s track, but some athletes are well into their 80s.
