Officials announce special bus routes for National Stadium inauguration

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced Tuesday afternoon special bus routes for the opening week of Costa Rica’s new National Stadium in La Sabana.

In a press conference at the stadium, officials informed reporters that routes from Alajuela, Heredia, Desamparados, Moravia and Sanata Ana would take attendees to and from the stadium. There will be road closures around La Sabana during the the inauguration week except on Saturday, the first day of the inauguration.

Vehicle parking will not be allowed in the area surrounding the field and traffic police will be on duty to help control the flow of traffic. The police will enforce parking at the stadium. Parking has become a major preoccupation lately for National Stadium officials. In December, The Tico Times reported that the stadium was built without a parking plan. Only 200 parking spots are available for a stadium that can hold 35,000 people. Designated parking spots for vehicles include Tibás, Belén y Heredia, locations far from the new stadium.

The National Police will enforce security at the stadium. According to the daily Al Dia, 500 police officers will e present at the inauguration.
