Flying Dutchman Robin Van Persie with the best goal of the World Cup so far

We might not see a better one the rest of the way. Robin Van Persie’s goal for the Netherlands equalized the match with Spain, 1-1, minutes before halftime in this rematch of the 2010 World Cup final.

The Dutch carried the momentum into the second half, and lead defending champs, 3-1, after a goal by Arjen Robben at the  52nd minute and another one by Stefan de Vrij at the 64th minute – although the third goal probably should’ve been called a foul.

Update: Ok, it’s now officially a massacre as Van Persie scores his second goal of the match – and the team’s fourth – in the 72nd minute, leaving the current score 4-1 with still plenty of time to play.

Update 2: What has happened to Spain? Five unanswered goals by the Dutch. Robben scores once more at the 80th minute to make the tally, 5-1. That’s going to be your final.

Spain lost its first match in the 2010 World Cup too, falling to Switzerland, 1-0. The Spaniards never lost again the rest of the way. That seems unlikely to happen this time.
