Ultralight plane crashes, killing pilot

A pilot died Friday morning after the ultralight airplane he was flying crashed in Parrita, Puntarenas.

Manuel Renata, a representative from the Costa Rican Red Cross, told The Tico Times that the pilot, last name Marín Salazar, was in critical condition when rescuers arrived at the scene and died when he arrived at a nearby clinic.

The daily La Nación reported that the pilot, 54,  was in cardiac arrest when Red Cross workers arrived.

Ultralight planes are typically single-seater aircraft flown for recreational purposes.
