Costa Rica’s Postal Service unveils stamps to honor ‘La Sele’ in World Cup

Correos de Costa Rica, the company that manages the country’s postal service, on Thursday launched a special limited edition of 30,000 stamps to commemorate Costa Rica’s participation in the upcoming World Cup Brazil 2014.

The stamp series called FIFA World Cup 2014 portrays the tournament mascot, the World Cup trophy and Costa Rica’s National Team, known as “La Sele.”

The series comes in two editions of ₡500 and ₡710 ($1 and $1.30), available at the agency’s main facilities in downtown San José, the Zapote branch (east of the capital) and online at www.correos.go.cr.

At a presentation ceremony Thursday, Correos de Costa Rica General Manager Álvaro Coghi appointed coach Jorge Luis Pinto and president of the Costa Rican Football Federation Eduardo Li as “Honorary Mailmen.” Both received a certificate and a mail bag.

Assistant coaches and former World Cup players Paulo Wanchope and Luis Marín also attended the event.
