Thieves steal from Costa Rica national team head coach Jorge Luis Pinto

Thieves stole personal documents, an iPad, cash and other items from the car of Jorge Luis Pinto, the head coach of Costa Rica’s national team, in the capital on Monday night.

Pinto, who led Costa Rica to qualification for the Brazil 2014 World Cup, had his car broken into while he participated in an event at a restaurant in Zapote, in southeast San José.

After coming out of the restaurant Monday, Pinto noticed that the rear windshield of his car had been shattered.

“They robbed very important documents. They stole memories from all my press conferences, a cellphone, cash, personal documents. A notebook filled with 20 years of numbers from all over the world, people of football — now where am I going to get those numbers?” Pinto told local media.

The robbers also took an iPad, which Pinto said contained part of a book that he had begun writing.

The exasperated coach said he is offering an award for the recovery of the belongings stolen from his vehicle.
