Paul McCartney to perform in Costa Rica on May 1

On May 1, the beatific Beatle Paul McCartney will perform at the National Stadium in San José. The concert is part of his “Out There” tour, a globe-girdling journey that was scheduled to end last November. McCartney and his four band mates opted to extend the tour in Latin America in 2014 and will first play Santiago, Chile, on April 21.

McCartney has been world famous since the mid-1960s, when The Beatles conquered the United Kingdom and invaded the U.S. Since then, McCartney has become one of the most iconic and successful musicians in history, selling 100 million albums and another 100 million singles. His writing collaborations with John Lennon are among the most beloved classic rock songs of all time, and even today McCartney’s creativity seems inexhaustible: The singer has cut four pop albums in the past decade, as well as two instrumental records. He has also become a poster child for a variety of charity causes, from vegetarianism to Hurricane Sandy relief. Answering his contributions to music, Queen Elizabeth II knighted McCartney in 1997.

According to press material, the concert will feature songs from his album “New,” released last October. According to McCartney, the album is largely a tribute to Nancy Shevell, his wife of three years, although several hundred million fans will likely imagine that it’s actually about them.

Paul McCartney will perform May 1 at the National Stadium, La Sabana, San José. More info TBA.
