Gang Members Kill 2 Cops in Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA (EFE) – Gangmembers shot to death two police officersinside Honduras’ leading hospital lastweek, during a successful attempt to freea detained fellow gang member who wasthere for a medical appointment.Aura Bejarano, a representative of thenational prisons administration, identifiedthe dead officers as Wilmer Sierra, 23,and Santos Hilario Meza, 22. They werekilled Nov. 18 while guarding allegedMara 18 gang member Marlon EnriqueFuentes, who had been brought to thehospital for a doctor’s appointment.Fuentes, 27, had been behind barssince June 21, 2000, charged with homicideand illicit association.Witnesses said the gang membersentered the room, shot the police officersand stripped them of their weapons, thengot their comrade and took him to anunknown destination.Police claim they have arrested threemen who allegedly were involved in thehospital raid.
