GUATEMALA CITY (EFE) – A mobburned four suspected thieves in a remoteIndian community in western Guatemala, apolice spokesman said Sunday.A National Civilian Police (PNC)spokesman in Joyabaj, in the Quicheprovince, said the killings occurredSaturday night in the hamlet ofCurrichiche.A group of residents nabbed six menwho were allegedly robbing a house. Some5,000 Indians gathered to deal with thesuspects, who were beaten, then dousedwith gasoline and set on fire, the policespokesman said.Four of the suspected thieves died andthe other two were rescued by authoritiesSunday and taken to a hospital in Joyabaj,the PNC spokesman said.Earlier this month, two men wereburned alive by a mob that accused them ofkilling a resident in an Indian communityin northwestern Guatemala.The latest killings raised to 16 thenumber of people lynched in Guatemalathis year.
