Granada Gossip:

I am always amazed how the week of Semana Santa affects Granada compared to other parts of Nicaragua.

While all the national tourists head to the beach and the Laguna de Apoyo, international tourists hit Granada. People from Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica fill the hotels and restaurants, making it a very profitable weekend for local businesses.

Calle La Calzada was filled to the maximum with tourists enjoying the many restaurants, bars, live music, break dancers and jugglers.

The Restaurant La Hacienda, which formally faced the San Francisco Convent, has made its move to La Calzada. So stop in for some great tacos al pastor while out and about.

Spice and Sugar Boutique has also moved to La Calzada and is located about one block from the OLÉ Boutique and Gifts.

If you thought that you only had one or two choices in volcano tours, think again. Tierra Tours, located on Calle La Calzada, has more volcano tours than I thought possible.

Drop by and check them out the next time you want to do something fun and adventurous.

The Norome Villas on the Laguna de Apoyo are under new management and were at maximum occupancy for Semana Santa. The new management company is working hard to make the Villas a more eco-friendly development and make Laguna de Apoyo a true destination in Nicaragua.

La Calzada Centro de Arte is now offering Mosaic classes six days a week, Monday- Saturday. The classes are $5 and include materials and instruction.
