Costa Rica Multilingüe’s Community Conversations project – previously known as the Resident Volunteer Program – has gotten off to a roaring start since the first volunteer trainings in May. The project, which sets up weekly English conversation groups in cities and towns around Costa Rica, has enrolled more than 200 volunteers; however, it also has a growing waiting list of Costa Ricans hoping to join a group, and is always looking for more help. No teaching experience is required. All you need is an hour a week (plus approximately 30 minutes of preparation time) and the willingness to share your language and culture with Costa Rican adults seeking to improve their English.
Groups meet in the provinces of Cartago (Orosi), Guanacaste (Liberia and Cañas), Heredia (Belén, Santo Domingo and Heredia Centro) and San José (San Pedro, Escazú, Puriscal, Desamparados and Guadalupe). The project is also working to set up groups in Santa Ana, Ciudad Colón, Alajuela, Monteverde, Turrialba, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca and the Central Pacific region, among other locations.
