Guatemala seeks investment from Spain and China

GUATEMALA CITY – Starting Wednesday, Guatemala will participate in international fairs in Valencia, Spain, and Hangzhou, China, to promote the country as a destination for foreign investment, the Guatemalan Economy Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

“The country’s presence at these events strengthens and expands trade links with Europe and Asia, and particularly with Spain and China,” the ministry said.

In China, Guatemala will present “its strategic advantages as a regional business and logistics center to more than 280 Chinese businessmen from manufacturing, clothing and textiles, energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and food sectors,” the statement said.

Guatemala has trade relations with China, but not diplomatic relations, as the country maintains ties with Taiwan, considered by the Asian giant as a renegade province.
