Belize seeks antivirus software guru John McAfee for questioning in murder case

Belize City – Police in Belize are looking for antivirus pioneer John McAfee for questioning in relation to the murder of another U.S. man on the island of Ambergris Caye.

McAfee is “sought for questioning in a homicide investigation,” police investigator Marco Vidal, who visited the former millionaire’s house on Sunday, told members of the press. Vidal belongs to the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU), a branch of the Belize Police Department that investigates organized crime.

GSU agents raided McAfee’s mansion in search of drugs and weapons some six months ago. McAfee was detained for several hours and released in that incident. He said a local politician had falsely accused him of drug trafficking after McAfee declined to contribute to a political campaign.

Now, McAfee is sought for questioning in connection with the murder of Gregory Faull, 52, originally from the U.S. state of Florida. A domestic employee discovered Faull’s body Sunday morning in his house on Ambergris Caye. Faull was killed Saturday night, police said.

In the house, investigators found “a 9 mm shell casing, consistent with Faull’s wound,” police spokesman Rafael Martínez said.

A police report said there were no signs of forced entry and a laptop and cellphone were missing.

According to the tech site Gizmodo, Faull and McAffe recently had several disputes stemming from McAffee’s alleged erratic behavior.

McAfee, a computer programmer who invented McAfee antivirus software, has lived in Belize for the past four years.
