Restaurants to serve up Thanksgiving Meals

To those looking to get their fill of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and the rest of the fixings for Thanksgiving, The Tico Times is here to help. Grab your bibs and ready yourselves for one of the few times of the year when pigging out is socially acceptable. So far, only five restaurants have gotten back to us about their menus. But we’ll be updating this information as the rest roll in.

El Patio de Balmoral in Hotel Balmoral will be serving traditional oven-roasted turkey with stuffing, gravy, sautéed vegetables, sweet potato puree, and cranberry sauce. For dessert they’ll be serving pumpkin pie, and to wash it all down, a cup of wine. The cost is $25 per person. They will be serving guests from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. and no reservations are needed, but they are recommended if you have a large group. The restaurant is located two blocks east of the National Theater on Avenida Central between Calle 7 and Calle 9. The Time Out Tavern in Escazú will be offering a home made feast of roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and roasted vegetables followed by traditional pumpkin or apple pie. For those looking to watch the classic Thanksgiving football rivalry between the Washington Redskins, the Time Out Tavern boasts 13 flat screen TVs.

The meal costs $20 a person, which includes taxes; no reservations are needed. The food will be served starting at 11 a.m. and will continue to be until the restaurant runs out, according to owner Steve Graham. The restaurant is located 300 meters south of the Costa Rican Country Club. For more information call 25-88-2622

Live music will accompany those dining at the Tropicala in the Ramada Plaza Herradura Hotel this Thanksgiving. Starting at 7 p.m., they will be offering a buffet-style dinner that will feature traditional turkey, mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, stuffing, gravy, squash soup, cranberry sauce and wine. For dessert, there are three pie options that include apple and pumpkin. The buffet costs $26 per person, and kids 12-and-under eat for half price. The hotel is located just east of Plaza la Asunción, 10 minutes from Juan Santamaría International Airport, and 15 minutes from downtown San José by taxi. For more information call 2209-9800.

For those who prefer to gorge themselves on the coast, Lemon Zest in Jacó has what you need. To start, they will be serving ginger spiced butternut squash soup. The main course consists of butterball roasted turkey breast with gravy, cornbread stuffing, roasted garlic mashed potatoes with fresh herbs, puree of sweet potato with marshmallows, chayote squash casserole and cranberry sauce. The dessert menu offers home made pumpkin, apple and pecan pies.

The price is $27.50 per person, which doesn’t include 13 percent tax and 10 percent gratuity. The feast will run from 4-9 p.m. For reservations, call 2643-2591. The restaurant is located in the center of Jacó Beach, 50 meters south of Mas x Menos Supermarket, upstairs in El Jardin Plaza.

Casino Club Colonial if offering a Thanksgiving meal at $25 per person including a cup of red wine. The food will be served buffet-style from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and again from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. For more info, call 2258-2807.
