Earthquakes Shake El Salvador, Guatemala

SAN SALVADOR – A magnitude 6 earthquake followed by two tremors, registering 4.2 and 4.8, shook El Salvador and Guatemala Jan. 18, according to Salvadoran authorities.

People working in El Salvador’s capital ran out of buildings into the street, but no damage or injuries were reported.

Seismologist Douglas Hernández said the quakes were “part of the normal process of interaction between the Coco and Caribbean tectonic plates.”
