Mejía Brothers to Mix It Up at Jazz Café

Known as Perrozompopo and the “Prince of Salsa,” Nicaraguan stars Ramón Mejía and his brother Luís Enrique will bring vastly different musical styles together this weekend at Jazz Café in the eastern San José suburb of San Pedro.

As Perrozompopo, Ramón fuses rock, flamenco, rap and pop to create an intense critical musical vision of his home city of Managua, while Luís Enrique, who was a salsa star during the 1980s and 1990s, has recently turned his talent toward pop, according to a statement from Jazz Café.

The successful brothers are scheduled to take a break from their separate paths this weekend during two performances at the popular nightspot.

Augusto Mejía, Guillermo Norori, Osmán Delgado, Carlos Vargas “Tapado” and Mario Alvarez will accompany the Mejía brothers.

The concerts are set for tonight and tomorrow night at 10 p.m. For info, call 253-8933.
