Three Survive Cessna Crash in La Fortuna After Engine Failure on Takeoff

Three people survived a small plane crash in La Fortuna de San Carlos this morning. The Cessna 206 registered TI-GRE lost engine power shortly after takeoff from Arenal Airport. It came down at 8:25 a.m. near the cemetery in the El Progreso neighborhood and stopped in a cassava field.

The aircraft carried the pilot and two passengers. Reports indicate the passengers are an American father and son. Red Cross crews reached the scene and confirmed all three alive. They classified two adult men as urgent cases and the adolescent as stable. Teams transported everyone to Hospital San Carlos for treatment.

The plane turned over on impact and sustained substantial damage. It remains at the site. The Dirección General de Aviación Civil sent its accident investigation team to examine the engine failure. The unit will review events right after takeoff. Witnesses described a loud noise as the aircraft attempted a turn. The three survivors continue to receive care at the hospital.
