Stream Outsourcing Firm Buys Supra Telecom

The Texas-based outsourcing company Stream has acquired the San José call center of Supra Telecom, a southern Floridabased local and international call provider.

Stream’s plans to expand the center will create an estimated 800 new jobs here. Stream, which services 45 million calls annually, is a provider of outsourced technical support and customer service.

High-tech companies hire Stream to support their customers, explained company spokeswoman Katherin Dockerill. Stream services a much larger client group than Supra Telecom, which is an “in-house” contact center supporting only Supra’s end users, she said.

Stream CEO and president Toni Portmann said in a statement the move is to advance Stream’s goal of global growth. Portmann said the Costa Rica center will assist the company’s clients in the Americas and Spain. Stream’s clients, which include software publishers, computer hardware manufacturers, consumer electronic companies, and Internet service providers, will be offered service in English and Spanish.

With this acquisition also comes a new vice-president, José Miranda, a former Supra employee, to head the Caribbean and Latin America region. Two other sites in the Dominican Republic have been opened in this region in the past 18 months, bringing the company’s site total to 27 in 15 countries.
