Tech Institute Teams Up with Chang’s Lab

The Costa Rican Technological Institute (TEC) has signed an agreement with U.S.- Costa Rican astronaut Franklin Chang’s Ad Astra Rocket Lab to work on team research projects and start up a student training program at the lab.

TEC Director Eugenio Trejos said in a statement that he’s glad to see high-tech businesses like the Chang lab developing in the country.

The lab’s director and the astronaut’s brother Ronald Chang said that the TEC is the first university with which the lab has signed an agreement.

The lab, based in Liberia, the capital of the northwestern Guanacaste province, is developing a plasma-based motor that would be a more cost-effective means of space travel to Mars and in space tourism.
