Remodeled Casino Opens In Guanacaste’s Capital

The Best Western Hotel in Liberia, capital of the northwestern province of Guanacaste, is now home to the newly remodeled and expanded Casino El Sitio, which celebrated its grand opening Jan. 14.

General Manager Jorge Mora-Soto told The Tico Times that the Las Vegas gaming consulting company The Gillmann Group bought the casino in May 2005, then closed and remodeled it. The casino has doubled in size and now totals 5,200 square feet, he said.

According to a statement from the casino, it offers 40 slot and video poker machines, seven table games and a full-service bar with flat-screen televisions.

Fred Gillmann, president of The Gillmann Group, said in the statement that Casino El Sitio will offer monthly raffle drawings and a VIP program for vacationers, and provides customers “a complete gaming experience just like Las Vegas.”

Casino El Sitio is open daily 11 a.m.-4 a.m. Call 665-4747 for more information.
