Iberia to increase seats in flights to Costa Rica

Spain’s Iberia airlines this year will increase the number of seats on flights to Costa Rica by 6 percent, to reach 250,000 spaces on flights between Madrid and San José, the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) said on Thursday.

“The growth in the operations of Iberia allows us to link up with our major tourism markets and largest generators of foreign exchange from Europe: Spain, France and Germany,” Tourism Minister Allan Flores said.

The airline operates a daily flight between San José and Madrid, and transported a total of 194,000 passengers – an occupancy rate of 84 percent – in 2012, according to ICT figures.

Flores added that along with the increase in seats the ICT also is developing a cooperative ad campaign with Iberia to promote Costa Rica destinations.
