General Cañas Highway Travel Times Reduced

KEY changes made recently to theGeneral Cañas highway that connects LaSabana Park in western San José to JuanSantamaría International Airport nearAlajuela have reduced travel time duringpeak hours by 15 minutes, the daily LaNación reported.The hours during which tolls are notcollected also have been extended. Before,the time was 5-7 p.m. and now it is 3-8p.m. Heavy trucks have been banned fromthe highway between 6-8 a.m.The Public Works and TransportMinistry (MOPT) is in the process ofbuilding “bays” along the side of thehighway where buses can stop withoutinterrupting the flow of traffic. Ten bayshave been completed and six are in theprocess of being built by constructionfirm Quebradores Pedregal.
