Recession? What Recession? Tourism Growth Up Again

Tourism was up during the first quarter of 2008, according to preliminary numbers released by the country’s two major international airports.

A release from the National Tourism Chamber (CANATUR) cites 436,719 passengers arriving at the country’s two main international airports from January to March, a 13.8% rise over the same period last year.

The release also points to strong performance of the industry during Easter week, with a survey of 50 hotels finding 70% occupancy, up from 67% during last year’s Easter vacation.
