Tico Homicide Suspect Nabbed in Texas

Authorities arrested Tico fugitive Marco Tulio Salas, 33, wanted for manslaughter, in Amarillo, Texas.

Interpol and the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement allegedly tracked Salas, wanted for hitting and killing Moisés Esquivel with his truck in 2006, through two other states – New York and California – before arresting him on April 1.

According to authorities, Salas hit Esquivel, who was drunk and asleep in the middle of the street at 2 a.m. on March 15, 2006, in Upala, in the Alajuela province northwest of San José.

At some point after Salas was originally arrested, he left the country.

Salas, who allegedly violated U.S. immigration laws as well, is still in custody in the United States, awaiting the results of a deportation proceeding. At the time of the slaying, Salas was a truck driver for chicken producer Pipasa.
