Olympic Committee Chooses New Chief

The Costa Rican Olympic Committee (CON) has selected Henry Nuñez to replace ousted leader Edwin Suarez, confirmed Josabeth Rodriguez of CON’s press office.

Nuñez, a former Olympian judo athlete, has been on both the administrative as well as athletic side during his career, Rodriguez said.

“He was in Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996,” Rodriguez said. “He also worked for the ministry for the 2004 games in Greece. He’s got experience in the things that (Suarez) didn’t have.”

Suarez came under fire under revelations that he still had not booked plane tickets for the Costa Rican athletes. Costa Rica was also lagging behind other countries in signing its athletes up for the games.
